Our standards

Skincare is only as good as what goes into it — and what goes into it is only as good as where it comes from. So this page is simply a list of the standards we hold, and the people who help us hold them. Everything here is specific on purpose. You can check it.

One ranch

Our bison tallow comes from Diamond Mountain Ranch in Greenville, California — high in the northern Sierra Nevada — and nowhere else. The bison are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, pasture-raised year-round on high mountain grassland, by a family we know by name.

Single-source matters more than it sounds. Most tallow is commodity fat, blended from many farms, impossible to trace. Ours comes from one place, so we know the animals' diet, their land, and their care — and because the quality of a tallow begins with the quality of the grass, that knowledge ends up in the jar. Grass-fed fat is naturally richer in omega-3s and CLA. The fat follows the diet.

It's also why our tallow smells the way it does — notably mild and clean. Anyone who has tried a beefy-smelling tallow balm knows why that matters.

Named sources, all the way down

The same standard applies beyond the ranch. The coffee in our exfoliant comes from Finca Del Cid in Guatemala's Santa Rosa highlands — organic, hand-picked, sun-dried, from a farmer family we know personally. And every botanical in our formulas — the calendula, chamomile, helichrysum, and the rest — is certified organic, marked with an asterisk (*) on our ingredient lists.

One honest note: tallow itself cannot carry an organic certification the way plants can. So we hold it to the standard that matters more: grass-fed, grass-finished, pasture-raised, single-source, from a ranch we've verified ourselves.

How we make it

Rendering: slow, at low temperature, in small batches. High heat degrades the fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins that make tallow worth using — so we never rush it.

Infusion: our botanicals are cold-infused in jojoba oil for a full season before they ever meet a jar. Patience is an ingredient.

No plastic contact: from rendering to pouring, our process uses glass, stainless steel, and platinum-cured silicone tools — never plastic. Your skincare never touches plastic in our studio, and it ships in plastic-free packaging.

Every jar is filled, labeled, and sealed by hand in Los Angeles, in batches small enough that we can stand behind each one.

Nothing synthetic

You will not find synthetic preservatives, synthetic fragrance, parabens, phenoxyethanol, fillers, emulsifiers, or water in our formulas. Not because we found clever substitutes — because we build formulas that don't need them. Preservation comes from vitamin E and rosemary CO₂ extract, antioxidants that protect the formula and bring their own benefits to your skin.

Fresh by design

Real, unprocessed ingredients behave like what they are. Our products are best used within 12–18 months of opening. Keep them cool and dry, and keep water out of the jar. In high heat a balm may soften or melt — leave it closed and upright at room temperature and it will set right back up, unchanged. We consider that softening a feature: it's what fat does when nothing artificial is holding it in place.

Verification, honestly

Our botanical suppliers carry organic certification. Our ranch relationship is direct and personally verified. Our formulas are also anhydrous — made entirely without water — which is itself the first line of microbial safety, since water is what microbial growth needs most.

As a young, self-funded company, independent third-party testing is a standard we're building toward. Until it's in place, you'll read that here, plainly — we'd rather tell you where we are than imply something we're not.
